On 13th February 2018, Consul General Jennifer A. Harhigh, the U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai visited Koung Jor Shan refugee camp on the Shan-Thai border, northern Thailand. The refugees presented the situation in the camp and their original homes which have been occupied by the Burma Army. The Koung Jor Refugee Camp Committee, on behalf of the Shan State Refugee Committee – Thai Border, appealed for the U.S. Government to urgently resume humanitarian aid to all the 6 IDP/refugee camps along the Shan-Thai border as food aid was completely cut by international donors in October 2017, even though conflict is escalating in all parts of Shan State and they can’t return home. Consul General Jennifer A. Harhigh then met with the Koung Jor students and teachers and discussed about the current political situation in Burma as well as education of children in the camps.
เมื่อวันที่ 13 ก.พ. 2561 คุณเจนนิเฟอร์ ฮาร์ไฮ กงสุลใหญ่สหรัฐอเมริกาประจำจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ได้ลงพื้นที่เยี่ยมค่ายอพยพกุงจ่อ ด้านอำเภอเวียงแหง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ชายแดนไทย-พม่า เพื่อรับฟังสถานการณ์ทั่วไป ปัญหาอุปสรรค ภายหลังที่องค์กรนานาชาติได้ตัดการให้ความช่วยเหลือผู้ลี้ภัยไทใหญ่ 6 ค่ายตามแนวชายแดนไทย-รัฐฉาน พร้อมกับพูดคุยและมอบหนังสือภาษาอังกฤษให้เยาวชน โดยหัวหน้าคณะกรรมการผู้ลี้ภัยไทใหญ่ (SSRC) ได้ร้องขอให้รัฐบาลสหรัฐอเมริกา กลับมาให้ความช่วยเหลือ ให้ผู้ลี้ภัยไทใหญ่ตามแนวพรมแดน รัฐฉาน ไทย ต่อไป จนกว่าจะกลับบ้านได้และเกิดสันติภาพอย่างแท้จริงในรัฐฉาน ประเทศพม่า
